PICAC Alliance
Partners in Culturally Appropriate Care (PICAC) Alliance
The PICAC Alliance is a national organisation that brings together Partners in Culturally Appropriate Care (PICAC) organisations from every state and territory in the country. PICAC organisations are dedicated to providing care that is sensitive to the cultural needs and preferences of the individuals being served. By bringing these organisations together, the PICAC Alliance creates a network of support and collaboration, allowing for the sharing of best practices and resources.
The Alliance aims to be a leader in promoting culturally appropriate care in the field of aged and community services. In addition to providing information and training to member organisations, the Alliance also works to raise awareness about the importance of cultural sensitivity in caregiving. By advocating for the inclusion of cultural competency in the development of care services, the PICAC Alliance hopes to help create a more inclusive and respectful environment for all individuals receiving care.
About the PICAC Alliance
The PICAC Program has been funded by the Commonwealth Government to operate in each state and territory since 1997. Over the years, the national PICAC program has established processes and practices to help achieve its goals and implement shared national priorities. The program has a long history of working to promote cultural sensitivity and understanding in the delivery of care services.

Systemic Advocacy
What is Systemic Advocacy?
What is Systemic Advocacy?
According to The Office of the Public Advocate, systemic advocacy involves working for long-term social change to make sure legislation, policies and practices support the rights and interests of people with impaired decision-making ability.
Why is Systemic Advocacy Important?
Why is Systemic Advocacy Important?
Systemic advocacy is an integral aspect of our operations, driven by our commitment to delivering a diverse range of services, activities, and programs funded to meet the needs of older individuals. Our engagements extend to older individuals, their families, and their support networks, as well as various service providers. These providers encompass both mainstream and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) specific entities, ranging from large established organisations to newer entrants in the field. We interact with those focused on clinical services as well as those emphasising social support. We actively seek opportunities for collaboration, forming diverse partnerships to enhance our capacity to deliver impactful services.
Engaging with individuals across various roles and diverse life experiences allows us to gather a spectrum of feedback, providing a unique vantage point for linking and combining insights. This dynamic process is mirrored across all Partners in Culturally Appropriate Care (PICAC) entities at the state/territory level. As the PICAC Alliance, we leverage these shared opportunities, bringing them into national-level discussions. While some conversations may retain their relevance at the state/territory level, others extend to a national scope. This approach underscores our commitment to systemic advocacy, a methodology rooted in authentic feedback from individuals with real-life experiences.
