World Alzheimer’s Month
As we embark on World Alzheimer’s Month, it’s crucial to acknowledge and address the stigma surrounding dementia, which remains a global barrier to seeking timely information, diagnosis, support, and care. Alzheimer’s Disease International highlights the need for collective action, and we at the PICAC Alliance are deeply committed to this cause.
For culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, these challenges are often compounded by language barriers and cultural misconceptions. The PICAC Alliance is actively working to dismantle these barriers. Our involvement in the national consultation on IAT assessment processes and the upcoming review of Clinical Guidelines reflects our dedication to ensuring that dementia care is inclusive and accessible to all.
Additionally, we’re proud to support initiatives like NARI’s work to upskill interpreters in dementia care, and we eagerly anticipate the release of the National Dementia Plan, where CALD perspectives will play a crucial role.
Our ongoing efforts, including an upcoming, new micro-course in the CALDWays series, continue to build on the foundation laid by past programs like Speaking My Language – Dementia Care with CALD perspectives. Join us this World Alzheimer’s Month in raising awareness and promoting understanding. Let’s create a more empathetic and informed global community. Together, we can make a difference.
